New probate requirements
Helen Burke will examine the new changes to probate requirements recently introduced and operative since 18th October, 2024. Since that date all new Probate Grant Applications will be mandated to use the new Notice of Probate Application Form. This is of considerable importance to all probate practitioners.

Jim Dennison is a former solicitor and a vocational rehabilitation consultant.
The role of the vocational rehabilitation consultant in litigation
Jim Dennison will examine the methodology for preparing vocational rehabilitation reports, the role of the report in briefing actuaries, and the place of vocational rehabilitation assessment in considering the duty to mitigate loss. He will examine the special considerations required in the case of low back injuries, psychological injuries, bullying cases, wrongful death cases and infant cases.
Session 3 12.20pm – 1.20pm (1 Hour General)
Denis Collins B.L. is a barrister with a general civil practice. He practices primarily in property law, planning and environmental law, personal injuries, and employment law. He is a member of the Planning, Environment, and Local Government Bar Association.
Judicial review of planning decisions
Denis Collins B.L. will examine the procedure for mounting a planning judicial review including the time limit for commencing judicial review proceedings, the test for leave for judicial review in planning cases, the operation of the Planning and Environment list in the High Court and the special rules for costs in planning judicial reviews.

Fionna O’Regan BL is a barrister with a general civil practice. She is a member of the Planning, Environment and Local Government Bar Association and the Climate Bar Association and is a former member of the Board of An Bord Pleanála.
The Residential Tenancies Board – a General Introduction and Recent Case Law
Fionna O’Regan B.L. will examine the jurisdiction of the Residential Tenancies Board, the registration of tenancies, rent control and review, security of tenure, termination of tenancies, referral of disputes to the RTB, applications for interim/interlocutory relief, adjudication, the appeals process to the Tenancy Tribunal and to the High Court on a point of law, investigations and sanctions, time limits, enforcement and recent case law.
Session 5 3.10pm -4.10pm (1 Hour General)
John Colthurst B.L. is a practising barrister and has a general practice across civil and criminal law. He is a member of the Irish Criminal Bar Association.
Overview of recently enacted and commenced criminal legislation
John Colthurst B.L. will examine the important new criminal statutes as well as amendments to existing criminal legislation passed in 2023 and 2024 including an overview of revisions and amendments to the Road Traffic Acts, the Criminal Justice (Engagement of Children in Criminal Activity) Act 2024, the Criminal Justice (Sexual Offences and Human Trafficking) Act 2024, the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 and the Garda Síochána (Recording Devices) Act 2023.
