Recording | The War in Ukraine – What solicitors need to know about the Temporary Protection Directive – General CPD

€0.00

Introduction

Ireland is expecting to host more than 100,000 Ukrainians and nationals of other countries who have been displaced because of the war. In response to this crisis as an EU member state Ireland has adopted The Temporary Protection Directive 2001/55/EC. This will give the holder of the temporary certificate a right to reside for 12 months, and immediate access to the labour market, welfare, health services, education, etc.

This webinar is designed to provide an introduction to international protection law and a primer on the Temporary Protection Directive. It will be of interest to solicitors who do not regularly practice in the area of immigration law and provide a forum to learn about the Irish legal response to the war in Ukraine.

Learning Outcomes

  1. The legislative basis underpinning international protection applications
  2. Refugee status, subsidiary protection and permission to remain on humanitarian grounds
  3. The Temporary Protection Directive
  4. Ukrainians travelling to Ireland – visa exemption, travel documents and practical issues
  5. Current procedures at ports and airports
  6. Temporary Protection v International Protection (refugee status and subsidiary protection)
  7. Temporary protection certificates
